Problems starting in Windows 8, no map will load.

Hi there,

 

What I've done is:

 

Fresh install Elite Force

install patch 1.2

install EF Expension Pack

--> so far works fine.

 

Install RPG-X 2.0 installer exe

copied 2.1 patch

copied 2.3 patch

 

Now the mouse is shakey and no map will run.

 

Anyone experienced the same problem?

Another issue is with the RPGXCE install. I've downloaded the latest version and installed it (v2.2 I guess) and here there are no problems with the mouse and I can run both maps that came with rpgx. However the ~ doesn't bring the console down.

Try the key to the left of the number 1 key, it might be on your keyboard the ~ is marked differently

For some weird reason the ~ wasn't bound to console, I've fixed it so that works. 

 

Unfortunately I can't get RPG-X 2.3 to work like it should.

Yes, I could install it without troubles.

I used the normal Version of rpgxEF and RPG-X 2.3. It has com_hunkmegs of 512.

The dafult key shortcut for the conosle in rpgxEF is [Shift] + [Esc].

 

For 64bit Windows I suggest to set the compability settings for rpgxEF to x86 (e.g. on Windows 7 64bit this is the compability mode Windows 7 and most likely will be Windows 8 for Windows 8 64bit).

 

Please also note that new graphic card drivers have different default optimization settings which results in problems running some older games including rpgxEF. This is especially an AMD ATI problem but also has happened on Nvidia cards lately. One suggested soultion to low framerates is to rename the rpgxEF binary to quake3.exe because the name is the way AMD ATI cards detect that they should be using an Quake 3 Engine optimized profile.

Thanks GSIO01, however Shift Esc doesn't work, neither does any keycombo I put into the hmconfig.cfg gile.

 

Also Station Vanderbilt v3 will not load with the error: "G_Spawn no free entities."

 

I have done this also in my XP virtual machine, same problems there unfortunately.

This message means that all available entities are in use. Which leads me to the conclusion that this map or the used version of the map is meant for use with rpgxEF which means it has to be run using the rpgxEF.exe.

The .aas has nothing to do with the map in RPG-X. The .aas files is for bots.

But its very strange.
Now you can open rpgxEF (1.0)? The other maps are working?

This was RPG_VOY4, also a common map. USS Ariana doesn't loos (aas error again).

 

Poseidon and Runabout do run without a problem.

The aas isn't acutally an error. The map simply does not have any bot support.

 

The actual error is

Can you please provide the following information:

  • What RPG-X version is displayed in the main menu of RPG-X?
  • The link to the version of RPG_VOY4 you used.

I seem to be unable to reproduce this behaviour. I'm on Windows 7 Pro 64bit though not Windows 8.

For some reason I can not open Runabout and Poseidon as well.

 

This error is on Windows XP though (Virtual Machine). I will check what it does on Win 7 later.

I have tested it.
Can't reproduce it.
I installed RPGXCE and RPGX 2.3 on Windows 8 x64. No problems here, except the known problem with the pak3 and Station Vanderbilt (v3).

Do you renamed the rpgxEF.exe to quake3.exe, if you use an AMD/ATI graphiccard? With which parameters do you start the game?

I've fixed the problem by copying the XP install to my Win 8 install and using the shortcut with the following parameters:

 

 

+set vm_ui 0 +set vm_cgame 0 +set vm_game 0  +set fs_game RPG-X2 +set com_hunkmegs 512

 

This makes it possible to load most maps (except Station Vanderbilt, I think that might be the pak3 problem. It gives me the following fault then:
