I recently finished playing Mass Effect and have just started playing Mass Effect 2. This series is made of win and awesome. It has a very Star Trek feel to it (one of the star systems is even named Nausicaa), but is done so much better than every Star Trek game combined. It uses RPG mechanics, though you can have the characters automatically level-up if you want. It's singleplayer, but I prefer my gaming that way anyway. There's always plenty of side missions to do, and you can explore freely too. Almost every planet has something to discover on it.

In the first game, planetary exploration is done by driving around in six-wheeled vehicle; in the second game, you scan the planet from orbit and launch probes. If there's anything worthy of an away team, you land in a shuttlecraft. I'm particularly enjoying the second game compared to the first game because you have more control over flying the ship, you need to refuel and reload on probes, and the second game does away with the inventory system. Instead of cycling through your crew swapping out weapons, armor, and modifiers (like the first game), you research upgrades that can apply to everyone on your away team, only those with certain skills, or even upgrade parts of the ship itself. I highly recommend it.

I've played Mass Effect 1 through a couple of times and love it. I've yet to purchase Mass Effect 2. I am looking forward to it though, everyone I know who's played it seems to be giving good feedback.

I recently finished Mass Effect 2 and was very happy to find that you can keep playing after finishing the storyline.

In Mass Effect 2, you can buy ship models for your quarters which go on a glass wall between your desk area and your bed area. You can also buy fish for your fish tank, which you then need to feed regularly or they die. It is possible to get your Yeoman to take care of your fish with enough dialogue interaction.

The only I want to know... can you save her in the end? I've played the last mission about 4 times now (reloading saves - not powerplaying :P) and I haven't been able to save her... so the shop at the Citadel keeps taking my money lol. Also I'm guessing you can't rescue Kaiden/Ash either?

I don't think spoilers really matter in such a predictable story.

It is possible to save your whole crew, but I don't think you can save the colonists.

It's not predictable... you've only done one thing... go back to ME1 and save the council. Or even then don't pursue a relationship, or maybe you do... then again you could be a paragon... or a renegade... you could kill Wrex, save his life... you could even never upgrade your ship in time for the final battle... you're only playing one storyline Lee :P

As for spoilers I didn't think so, since I found out that you can - or not, so I might have given hints away to one ending out of millions :)

Each one of those choices has completely predictable outcomes.

It is my theory that science fiction fans have generally become a group of people who persistently want more of the same. There is nothing in either Mass Effect that I have played so far that was surprising.

Haven't read text for fear of spoilers, been unable to play Mass Effect 2 lately due to dodgy net and Cerberus content in my save games - but LMAO at that last picture.

XBOX. I do have the original on both, however since I never bothered to complete the original on the PC, I went with the XBOX again for the sake of my save file.

I'm playing the PC version. I pre-ordered on Steam so I got some bonus armor. I also scrounged up three other bonus items (umbra visor, recon hood, and one other thing) with some Dr. Pepper promo codes, though they also unlock the XBox versions of the items so it doesn't matter from that standpoint.

I considered the promo items, not really fond of how they look. I'm quite happy with the visor from Omega.

I got the 'Cerberus' content pack. I don't know what to think :P
It looks decent enough but the armour is very restrictive. Though after loosing all my saves :( I don't really care what I look like :P

The thing I dislike about the Armour/Shotgun pack, is the fact you cannot remove the helmet from the Cerberus Armour. I would probably wearing it if I could take that ugly thing off, but I'm not fond of going through every conversation without being able to see my face.

I gave the shotgun to anyone that can use it though, quite nice having the extra bit of range.

I'm also intrigued by the upcoming hover tank.

Lee. You make the assumption that surprises are why people find pleasure in a story, or a game.

I loved the Mass Effect games. I think Bioware did a fantastic job fleshing out a universe. I loved that so many of my choices from the first game carried over to the second. I liked the combat much better in the second. Planet scanning can go jump off a cliff though.
