I've been waiting for mine for 3 weeks and it finally arrived on Friday!!!! :D

The first thing I did to mine was apply a ZAGG Invisible Shield to it.... which I am still debating was a success or not hehe. The back cover has some strange patterning on it, and the cover on the front appears to be creating a chromatic streaking effect over the screen... :$

Anyway, I'm leaving that aside for the time being... who else has an iPhone here and who else agrees they are crazy freaking awesome? :)

One thing I'm finding quite tricky about it is the sheer number of apps already available for it and which ones are probably the worth getting/buying...

I've already loaded down apps for the social sites Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and mixi, and those are really useful, not to mention having bought a unit converter program called Units and that crazy Monkey Ball game by Sega. :)

In any case, at some point I also intend to break out the SDK and have a look at writing some apps of my own for this phone... :P

Anyway, let me hear what you think of the iPhone! :(

Congrats on the iPhone 3G TiM! :P As you already know I have one too. I got my the day they came out...waited like 5 hours in a crappy line because of all the activation problems. I absolutely love my iPhone 3G I have done allot with it so far and recently went on a vacation and it performed very very well.

Ok the whole invisible shield thing... First I understand protecting the back of it... But the front? I mean the front of the device is where all the work is being done... I don't want anything getting in the way of working with the device or making it look as if it was a cheap Chinese knock off. :) I would leave the front unprotected with those invisible shields and I would rather just get a flip case or something. Even though I believe it is very very hard to scratch the glass display.

If you having a problem finding/trying out Apps before you buy a very good site to check out is http://www.appstoreapps.com. They have allot of different reviews on the official Apps and even videos of them working. I do agree it would be nice if it was a requirement for the pay Apps to have a free trial/demo. Kind of like Xbox Live.

Some of the killer Official Apps I have on my phone are: Palringo (Does all the messengers including MSN and Gtalk), Onetap Movies and Movies.app, Last.fm, Mocha VNC, Ymobile, and Weatherbug. Just to name a few :$ ...I like all the apps on my phone or they wouldn't be there :)

I really want to have a go at the SDK but I need to first buy a Mac. I kind of wanted to for awhile and this gives me a real excuse to actually buy one. I just don't know if i should get a laptop or a desktop :S Decisions...

Lol!!

If you ask me, it was worth it. :) You only spent one day waiting, and you got the iPhone a whole 3 weeks before I did. :P

Yeahhhhhh.... starting to agree with you there... the back doesn't really look very bad, so I can probably live with that... but the chromatic streaks in the front are starting to get to me haha. They 'claim' they go away after 48 hours of application, but I just checked my dad's iPhone which has the same thing applied and it still has them... albeit quite faint.

Ah welll.... maybe once I manage to get my mits on a case, I'll remove the front and put in storage (it's amazingly reusable haha)

OMFG yes!!!!!!!!!!!! A trial would be so useful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :$
But cool, I'll keep that site in mind. :)
I also wonder if it's worht making a thread listing off all the best recommended apps for the iPhone...

Haha okay... I have none of those Apps... I better check them out. :D

Ahhh... yes haha. My dad's been very kind to lend me an old MacBook of his for the time being so I can screw around with the iPhone Dev Tools.

Hmmmm.... that's a hard one. Would you be considering doing serious work on the Mac? If not... a laptop is probably fine....

The iPhone only just became available here in Canada within the past month, and there is only one wireless carrier that sells it. The price is quite high compared to ordinary phones, but on par with Blackberry and Pocket PC-based phones. I can't really justify it for myself, so I won't be getting one, but I've seen some videos of iPhone apps and some look pretty cool.

I don't have much of a need for a cellular phone, much less a whole operating system of little useless (I didn't say uncool, just useless) gadgets in my pocket, where I live. None of my other friends have phones of their own except for one who's dirt poor and not really my friend and just comes over to mooch off all my stuff and hers doesn't even work. If I need to do something on a phone I'll just keep a quarter in my pocket or use my mom's or one at my school.

Yeah, same in Australia... July 11th it came out. I ordered it a week after it had arrived, but was told not to expect one for a long time. :$

Hmmmmmmm.... I think I got a decent deal. I'm paying 40 dollars AUD a month and with that, I get 35 dollars worth of calls and 500MB download data.

On top of that however, I think I'm paying the phone off too, which is like another 40 bucks... :)

Either way, I think it's worth it. I'm having the most awesome time of my life on a phone right now. :D

Ah well... I guess public pay phones aren't totally out of the picture yet then hehe....:)

Ooh, I wouldn't say useless. A lot of these apps I'm finding pretty useful to have during my days at work already. :P

Well seeing as I just graduated from eighth grade I don't have much need for portable undernets or schedulers. The only thing I carry around that's electronic at my school is a Zune. But that's really about it.

Plus the the buttons that resemble a keyboard are way too small for my thumbs to hit just one at a time.

Ah well... can't really blame ya then. I never had any use for a phone at high school either. :)

Red!! I tried looking at the apps you suggested there, but the only one I found on the App Store was Weatherbug.... :)

Is it possible they've been taken down? Or are they jailbroken apps there.... :$

Most likely they are US apps only. This would make since because most of the apps I suggested are made by US based companies.

I didn't think of this at the time.

I just found this App called DataCase. It turns your iPhone into a portable storage drive using Wi-Fi! Now im not sure if its out for all the countries or just the US but here is a link: http://www.iphonehac...e-datacase.html

TiM I know you were looking for something like this the other day.

Hahahahah speak of the devil! I bought DataCase yesterday and was going to mention it here! :)

It's a freakin awesome app. It lets you transfer files to your iPhone and then view them, via your WiFi network connection.

It's not as awesome as being able to plug your iPhone into a PC and transfer files, but it's so insanely close, that I don't really mind hehe.

Definitely worth it. :$
