I got Wolfenstein hooray hooray.

This isn't the Raven that made Elite Force or the Soldier of Fortune series. As with all of their titles it does have style: the guns are fun to shoot, the animation of characters is amazing, the level design is nice, and the sound technology is better than anything I've ever heard in a game. As always, the violent content is also pretty cool. You'll leave shiny red holes from each bullet and the goo weapon is incredibly fun.

However, the game itself is extremely dumbed down with some of the (fortunately not all) symptoms of consolitis, including no leaning system, no arbitrary saving, magic health regeneration, and in-game hints. I'd've not noted the in-game hints if they didn't turn back on after I opened the game again, even if they turned off. I would have noted, however, the auto-aim. I hate auto-aim. Auto-aim needs to die a fiery death in all video games, but fortunately the option to turn that off works. I turned it off before playing the game at all and will not turn it back on.

I also fricking hate the magic health. In real life, picking up a medkit doesn't pull out bullets, but magic health makes any game far too easy. I played it on hard, and I'll admit I died a few times (and am still playing through single player), but being nearly invincible by crouching isn't fun or challenging to me.

The AI is also very problematic. You could say it's pretty okay in the open areas, which are basically just big battlefields and such cover here and there. In the corridors, Nazis are flipping stupid. Raven software designed Soldier of Fortune II's A.I. Soldier of Fortune II's A.I. As in, some damn cool A.I. EF's was pretty neat too. I found an old copy of their first Star Wars game and the A.I. there sucked and was compensated for by adding swarms of troopers versus you with a little laser rifle. In Quake 4 the orange guys or your teammates weren't half bad.

Now, in Wolfenstein, all these guys do is hug cover with the occasional grenade. The problem with the cover part is that they consider far too many things as cover. They seem to hug it regardless of your position and its relativity to you. They'll hug cover as much as they can but you'll be standing right next to them and they'll leave half their body wide open for you to attack.

And the Veil powers are cool too, but would be cooler if they weren't designed to be most useful in progressing through easy environmental puzzles, such as an impass that isn't actually there, or a ladder that is only there in the Veil dimension that you can only see as a slight refraction in the real world. There are also Veil recharging stations everywhere, which takes away from the challenge of having to reserve Veil power for quad damage or a shield or slow motion on special occasions.

25% of what I encountered so far are paranormal things, such as the Nazi-commander versions of Doom 3's archviles or the (amazing awesomecool) invisible ninja assassins, but the terrible Nazi A.I. probably put in to make it easier to ooh and aah each time you fire the goo cannon makes it not as fun.

Of course, it may turn out to be super awesomecool after I progress more but if that's so it won't make up for the first four hours I've spent.

I'm tired of writing.

Then, what about this game is good? Apart from boss battles, which are pretty good... I'm not being encouraged to play the multiplayer either, considering half of Endrant's staff of seventeen people or so was fired on the day of release. That's just a sort of omen to me.

The multiplayer is appalling I'll give you that, but to me, because it's essentially a different game - it doesn't count towards Wolfenstein itself.

Personally I was quite refreshed by Wolfenstein, as I found it to be the first true FPS game of the traditional sense in quite a while. Pretty much beating Far Cry 2 over the head with the back end of a Kar98.

I was impressed with the way it handled the weapon upgrade system and presented you with different ways of approaching groups of hostiles. Granted, the sniper scope for the Kar98 gives you a massive advantage over the AI in the streets, but then so would a real one in that situation.

I was rather put off by chapter three pretty much being walking through walls in a dark dank underground temple, but the later gameplay affirmed my affection for the game a little bit. Overall I thought the level design was rather well thought out and the random AI spawns through the open areas being quite an interesting element.

I did like the way the AI reacted, admittedly if you stormed ahead while they were already performing a cover action you could move quicker than their scripts could respond.. but other than that they were reasonably well thought out.

I will not even listen to you at all anymore. Fallout 3 maybe but if you think Far Cry 2 is good at all, you're batcrap insane.

Batcrap insane.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is traditional. Far Cry is traditional. Neither of their sequels is. It's just dumbed.

Opinions are okay, but my opinion is that others' disagreeing opinions are wrong.

But really, the fact that this game lacks features found in games from eight years ago is pretty sad.

Err...no..

I said Wolfenstein beats Far Cry 2 over the the head with the butt end of a Kar98. Far Cry 2 is an absolute train wreck, whomever thought up half of it's game elements should be shot - along with whomever programmed the everyAIactsexactlythesame characters.

Well, anything beats Far Cry 2 anywhere with any object available. Considering you made a comparison like that with a game you like sounded sort of like you said "Far Cry 2's good, but Wolfenstein is tons better."

I liked Far Cry 2. The plot sucked, yea I know.

But I liked being able to drive a jeep at full speed, bail, have it crash into explosive barrels, and kill ten people inside the cease-fire zone.

Communicating your opinion usually results in bashing those who support whatever you are bashing in your own opinion. This is not a good thing, if you are looking for someone to AT LEAST understand your point of view. Might want to work on different way of communicating your opinions/ideas

I'm not trying to be hurtful to others on purpose (unless they like Far Cry 2), it's more the fact that my opinions are either very positive, very boring, or very aggressive. It is not from hate of others that I am driven. I'm just not politically correct. At all.
