Just another little update in my personal war against teh spam bots. :P

I've created a new usergroup which users get placed into immediately called 'New Member'. New members are basically the same as normal members except they can't edit the wiki, and they (hopefully) can't place any links in their profile.

Once a user has posted 5 times, they'll get bumped up to regular member. :)

So yeah, as always, if something broke as a result of this, please mention it. :)

Where is this wiki?

I know John was talking about it earlier on in the month, but I can't see any links for it :S

May I suggest upping that a little bit? In my experience most spambots are programmed to post five times. >.<

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Spambots might post more than 5 times...how about putting all new members on post approval thingy until an admin approves their first post and then bumps them into the normal user group to make sure that their posts aren't spammy?

Welcome to Stasi Version 2.0...

I don't like that Idea of 'total controll'.

What happens if all the current admins are wiped out in a massive explosion! Then nobody will be able to accept new members!

I say you let everyone post and delete the posts if they're spam posts.

You could make it so that the people who make the first 5 posts can't use links in these posts, that way they can post, but not link

Oh okay, the limit increase is a good idea then Hocking. :)
It's increased to 15.

Uh hmm, I can't remember if I actually announced the wiki here or just handed out the addresses on MSN.

Well, it's not actually a private thing, so it's okay to go check it out. :)

http://www.ubergames.org/wiki

But yeah, it still needs some work, and I'm still looking at making a nice UberGames skin (And the logo as well John lol. But I gave one to Hocking as well. ;) ) for it.

But yeah, I'm insanely busy working on something else for now, so I gotta put it on hold. :(

Yeah... I don't really like Admin approved things... it's really annoying for people who just want to jump in and start talking.

I'm just hoping that as long as we try and make it as painful as possible for spambots to sign up and then post their messages here, then the majority of them won't get through, and you won't have to rely on the admins for this. :)

That's already the case, at least it was at the old boards . . .
