Hey Guys

Just wondering whether you guys can look at my first LCARS I made in photoshop elements, yep, no pen tool or anything :P.

Constructive comments would be most useful for my improvement :P.

Now I feel embarrassed, I put it in the wrong category. Sorry :wtf:

I like making LCARS in Flash a bit more because all the tools make vector, and you don't have to add so many specific functions to each thing you draw. I don't get how you guys can do it.

Any idea what font is supposed to be used in LCARS? I have Swiss911UltraCondensedblabla, with people telling me it's the one to use, and it's not the one to use.

Haha nah, this forum's fine.

They look really good. There's nothing blatently uncanon that I can see, so I'd say that's fine. :P

Haha... yeah, I used to draw all of my LCARS in Flash too, but I usually use Photoshop more often now. As long as you keep the elements as vectorized shapes instead of raster bitmaps, there's no difference.

IIRC, on Star Trek: Enterprise and the likes, the computer panels on the bridge sets were simply normal LCD displays hooked up to computers rendering Flash animations in full screen mode. :wtf:

Hmm, the font we used in RPG-X for the menus was called 'LCARS'. No fuss no muss. I'm sure a Google search would easily find it. :P

The font called "LCARS" is fan-made. Swiss 911 is the real font used by the Art Department to make the actual LCARS seen on television. Anybody who says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

Well, considering the fact that Swiss 911 isn't free and doesn't come with anything of my knowledge, the "LCARS" font is best.

"LCARS" is FREE and gives a similar effect to the actual font, Swiss 911.

Loving those LCARS Quince, especially the first and second. I'm not a big fan of the Nemesis colour scheme - although that isn't your fault so I'm equally as fond of your third image. :wtf:

Would you mind if I asked what source you base that on?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but in my opinion Swiss 911 is thicker than the font used in the show.

Not to be the one to spark a flame war here, but yeah I agree.

If you're going to start putting down people's intelligence like that, you better put some info up to back it up. :wtf: I just did a quick sweep on Google and Memory-Alpha and found next to nothing about the fonts on Star Trek....

I read it on the Internet somewhere. Yeah, I know, really reliable.

http://www.memory-al...Star_Trek_fonts
http://www.lcarscom.net/faq.htm

However, I'm still going to hang my head in shame and apologize for my statement, because apparently the real font is a member of the Compacta family.

http://flare.solarec...pic/7/1437.html

HOWEVER, I will still continue to insist that the LCARS font is a fan-made piece of crap and people should use Swiss 911 instead. If people can get their hands on Compacta LT instead, that would be even better, but I'm not going to expect people to buy it just for making LCARS textures.

AdKathrynJaneway also said on EFFiles that it's a member of the Helvetica family. I think ultra compressed. I'm too lazy to look up what she said in a new tab though.

And on that thing Scooter linked to, where he "hung his head down in shame" or something, he read the wrong font. The guy he quoted said the official one was Helvetica anyways, from a Rick Berman (semi-yuck) interview. The random person said he didn't want to pay for it though so he used Compacta LT.

I have the Helvetica font in question but I'm sure it's illegal to share it.

I'm using LCARSGJ2 or something like that, it works really well at high resolution.

The only problem is it goes blurry at lower sizes, so in Elite Force 1 it can be a bit hard to read. Still, with a bit of photoshop trickery even that can be improved.

Hmm... we just used the one called 'LCARS' for RPG-X...

I didn't even know there was one that could be considered more canon than that one... :$

I just compared the two, the difference is extremely un-noticeable unless placed next to each other.

The one I'm using, actually 'LCARS GTJ2,' has fractionally larger spaces between letters - roughly a pixels worth of difference.
