w00t. I finally got this to a (relatively) presentable stage, and got the greenlight from the director to upload it here. :D

So, I had to put the 3D graphics dev aside for a little bit and move to another important component of the visual effects: the computer screens for the consoles in the ships. :)

So.... here's the first one I've been working on. Krell is in his cockpit, scanning the planets in our solar system, before he arrives at Earth and starts scanning that one.

I painted all of the 2D elements in Photoshop, and rendered out the planets in LightWave, and then stuck it all together and animated it in After Effects.

At the moment, it's still a massive work in progress. I've just been informed that Earth, nee the entire solar system isn't obvious enough, so I'm going to have to go through and try and make it a bit more distinctive hehe.

And finally, for the actual computer graphics bits... I'm thinking only alien text isn't cutting it. I might go through and look at some LCARS and DRADIS displays and see what they do there for 'visual fluff'. XD

In any case, please give feedback if you see anything that could be improved.

Attached to the picture is also a very rough still of the shot that this think will ultimately be comped into. :)

Thanks!!

I have no idea what this is for but I'd give this "Krell" the advice to stay out of his ****pit.

So much for intelligent swear word censoring. XD

It's for a TV show: http://www.welcometothecosmos.com/

Hehe thanks guys.

Okay, I completed this shot a while ago now, but I pretty much forgot about this thread... :$

Anyway, I got clearance from the director to post up some stills from the completed shot.

So basically it's an animation of the computer scanning the solar system, finding Earth, and then progressively zooming into it. It was animated entirely in After Effects, with some of the elements being animated out of LightWave.

I'll see if I can get clearance to add a few more shots later on. :)
