They will most likely simply let the domains run out which leads to automatical sail.

And yes thanks Vincent, if there is anybody else interested in the creation of a forum for Trek games, please contact me via PM or MSN, I definately need help in case this gets started. Administrators, Moderators, content editors, everything and everyone is welcome :)

And what about the domain EFfiles.com and subsequently ?? Will they become available again or are they going to be put away on digital shelves, never to be used again ??

Probably domain squated by Ziff Davis. Just like paramount is doing with the EF source code. Companies like to sit on their digital assets even if they don't use them anymore. Its annoying!

Either way we need to spread the word that FileFront is closing it's doors so that people can go away and backup all the files they deem to be important.

We are all very sad to see Elite Force Files and Filefront in general bite the dust. I hope that the loss of a hub such as Effiles does not cause the non-RPG-X area of the community to die too, because that would be a real shame. Its been less than 24 hours since things were buisness as usual on the site, so you can see how quickly this has happened.

In any case, IKS Yo Mamma and several other admins from sites across the network are attempting to save a handful of the sites by moving them elsewhere and are in the process of backing up the entire database. More on that as we make progress. We suggest you also go and download what you need NOW, as on the 30th, everything ends.

For now, UberGames and the EFR site are the closest things EF has to a hub, so check those for updates.

In conclusion: This sucks. =[

I don't have much confidence in the previously mentioned ModNetwork.

As much as I like and trust Ronnie, he has been working on it for over a year with very little progress. The first time he showed it to me, it was originally a Babe Site with Babe of the Day instead of Picture of the Day etc.

He made a lot of progress since then though.

And it's not only the current admins planning like that, there is also a plan regarding Elite Force only. I won't go into detail though until we have a real concept up for this.

A lot of FileFront people are gathering on a place called The Rogue Forums, it is also the place where I originally obtained this information. TRF consists of FileFront staff & members, both old and new.

The forum is going to be a hub of the recovery effort on the behalf of FileFront Staff members and at present, several people there are doing their best to recover Network Sites databases.

A sub-forum has been created to allow Senior Members of the FileFront Staff to maintain a direct line of communication and keep everyone in the loop on what is going on;

This will probably end up in several split networks developing now, seeing I know of at least 3 different projects.

I found this;

# A quick and VERY DIRTY filefront file ripper.

import urllib
import os
import random

def getNames(sPage):
	""" Get a list of mod names from the page."""
	pPage = urllib.urlopen(sPage)

	# Find the link.
	print "Looking for links"
	lLines = pPage.readlines()
	lLinks = []
	for sLine in lLines:
		tData = sLine.split("</a>")
		for sLine in tData:
			if "<b><a class=\"size11\" href=\"/file/" in sLine:
				lLinks.append(sLine.split("<b><a class=\"size11\" href=\"/file/")[1].split("\"")[0])
	for sLink in lLinks:
		print sLink
	return lLinks

def doDownload(sPage, sFileName ="s"):
	""" Download a mod at a page with a gofetch link."""
	pPage = urllib.urlopen(sPage)

	# Find the link.
	print "Searching for Link"
	sDLine = None
	for sLine in pPage.readlines():
		if "gofetch" in sLine:
			sDLine = sLine.split("/file/gofetch/")[1].split("\"")[0]
			break
		elif "<big><b>Click here to Download the File</b></big></a>  </div><br>  <table summary=\"" in sLine:
			sName = sLine.split("<table summary=\"")[1].split("\"")[0]
			print sName
	if sDLine == "":
		return False

	# Download the file.
	print "Downloading Mod File."
	sModFile = "http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/gofetch/" + sDLine

	sCommand = "wget --user-agent='Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/2007071317 Firefox/2.0.0.5' --load-cookies=cookies.txt"
	os.popen((sCommand + " --output-document='"+sName+"_page.html' '" + sPage + "'") )
	os.popen((sCommand + " --output-document='"+sName+"' '" + sModFile + "'") )

	print "Done"
	return sModFile

def downloadCatagoryPage(sCatPath):
	""" Download a catagory page. NOTE: ensure you set the number of things per-page to 100 and do each page by hand """
	lLinks = getNames(sCatPath)
	for sLink in lLinks:

I'm not even sure how to use that, and even if I did, I question the legality. :P

The Community manager (Jeff/n0e) sent out an e-mail earlier today, I would imagine it will result in the staff run projects being reorganised and consolidated.

Fifteen GIGABITES in one go, Rhys? Um... no.

But I encourage you to do your best, because after the 30th, you won't have a chance.

Might work for the website itself (pages, images, scripts), would be a bit difficult for the actual content but as long as we have a backup of just the website, finding the files wouldn't be much of a problem . . .

I'm not Luke but I can answer the space on the EFR site question.

We don't know how much space we have exactly as we only asked for a small amount of space however once our host is online I can ask him and find out how much space there is
