For one reason or another, sometimes Single Player fails to run (Z_Malloc error in startup console) when you have RPG-X installed as well as a plethora of maps and skins.

Simply manually create folders for a second Elite Force install and copy/paste all of the files (not the folders) from the Elite Force installation directory. Then, copy the stock pk3 files from BaseEF into your new BaseEF and run with the new shortcut in your second install.

You could do that; I just prefer to keep all the things I want to use for RPG-X2, in its folder.

That way I can have one install.

But alas, I do have two, one for RPG-X2, and a clean one for Freelance when it comes out :)

You can change com_hunkmegs without opening EF by directly editing the holomatch config file. Ignore the warning at the top about not editing the file and don't screw anything up.

1) How much RAM do you have ??

2) The value cannot exceed the amount of RAM you have. Any number higher then your currently installed RAM will cause the game to crash. By default, set the value half of your current RAM and it should work.

3) Where did you find that file ??

Go into the Raven directory of your current install; Program Files>Raven

Right click, create a new folder for Elite Force but with a name different to that of the current Elite Force install. So for example, STVEF. Open your new folder and repeat this process but name this next folder BaseEF.

Go back to your original install and copy everything from the install, excluding the folders. So you should have the DLL files and EXE files selected and then paste them into the STVEF folder you made before. You can also copy the folder titled Extras.

Next, go into the orignal BaseEF folder and copy out pak0, pak1, pak2 & pak3. Again, these go into the new folder. Finally, right click on the 'stvoy.exe' in the new installation and click on Send To>Desktop.

You should now be able to run with that shortcut and your second installation.

I created a clean install for Freelance, bypassed the launcher to increase the hunkmegs beyond the 512 it enforces - and still receive the error. I think it's an issue with the release itself.

I got the same error when testing it, when i got the .bat file to set the hunkmegs higher it worked through the z_malloc error. I assumed the com_hunkmegs would have fixed it...and if not then your computer is wacko...:P...nah I dunno

I removed a buncha stuff from my BaseEF and didn't get the error so I can't see why a clean install wouldn't work.

so you are saying i can modify the .bat for 3GB of hunkmegs to aviod a malloc error? and no worries, i have 4GB of RAM

No well originally the teaser didn't work because it didn't have a decent com_hunkmegs value set. However, the 512 that's been added to the bat file should have resolved it. Try running it at 1024 and make sure to post if that's worked or not. (It's just to release something with a value of 1024MB of RAM usage isn't feasible cuz not everyone has a min of 2GB of RAM)

It worked fine for me, first time everytime... so as long as you all have problems with EF and ioEF or ioCow I will not :)

That's what I said. Try it...and make sure it's on a clean install. EF doesn't like lots of mods in the one bit...trust me...I know XD

The teaser was awesome, too bad that I will need a separate folder for EF to work this new mod when it is finished.
