I think the series would have been better if they had survived, but there's no way to know for sure.

I agree with Scooter. The best RP's are always the ones that start with a mystery or a problem. Character development/internal struggle or political/diplomatical RP's have been good as well, but they require very good RPers. Romulans and Borg generally dont generate any fun at all, but an occasional war, complex and spread out over multiple RP's can be satisfactory once in a while. Anyway, for any RP to be succesful you need to have players who can continue on a plausable plot, playing their own part in it without obstructing the larger flow.

Having a duckhunt or fragfest can be fun, too. Especially if its team vs team on a suited map, but one must recognise that it is not RP.

Anyway, the last time I RPed was a long time ago, so I'm not an expert anymore, lol. It would be nice to get the old people back together occasionally and see what happens.

/signed. Maybe we could set up some sort of weekly RP through RPGX where everyone who wants a non retarded (sorry, I mean alternative combat style) rp can get together once a week and actually relive the life of a starfleet officer.

Yeah that would be a nice Idea. A sheduled RP apart from all RPG Groups. Just doing a neat Day-to-day RPG.

Probably we should make up a topic for it, containing some ideas

Thats actually what I've been setting out to do with the Torino with Alpha Fleet.

I get less and less sympathetic to people who come in and shoot up the ship griping about being bored. I just want to tell them to go play deathmatches or something.

Personally I wouldn't want to be too committed to a specific continuing storyline or ship, I'd just like to log on around the decided time, have the most experiance player present CO the RP, and just come up with something different everytime, if you ended up taking the same position every week (as you probably would) you can just keep going with whatever side projects you have on, and let the main plot differ to create abit of variation.

Yes, but it requires forum registration, so that logs of the mission can be posted for people that missed a session, aswell as character biographies that people can keep updated etc etc.

Generally it defeats the object of having some sort of no ties inter-group play session, because everyone involved would all have to be on the same forum, then the argument would arise about which groups forum to use etc, there would bound to be some pettiness from one party about 'well im not doing it if its on x forum' etc, and generally it would probably spiral into chaos. Simple is better for this I think.

In the end you create a new RP group, full of the same people as in every other RP group, which is exactly the thing the idea was trying to prevent.

And thats also true. I dont know if RPG-X has it own servers, but it might be possible to get some people on a sheduled RP. Not a serial one. Just setting up a time wich fits (almost) everyone (I know the problem of the time zones)

And we might get some great RPG's going. The next problem I see, is when you get to the servers at the sheduled time, its more then likely that you see the same CO every week :P

The risk of beeing dragged into boring end-up-battle plots is very high and the result could be noone actually dares to attend this sheduled rp's anymore.

I think this should have a subforums of some sort, were we can solve this. As example

"I have a nice Idea for this weekend. What about if we do this... and that..." and the person who came up with the idea could be CO probably

In the next week another CO though.

What do you think?

What about if..theres a different story...relating to a different person each time..so that person creates the story

Eg.
CMO - Medical epidemic

The best way to overcome someone saying 'sir, Im detected an unidifintied object entering the system...OMG ITS A KILLION METERS LONG, FURING TEH PHAZORS' is just to ignore whatever is they are saying and RP over them

The correct response to the above situation is anyone with access to sensors going 'Thats odd, I'm not detecting anything, maybe your consoles malfunctioning, or perhaps you need to take a break ensign, you have been working double shifts'.

I find it easier to just screen who plays and gameplan the rp some before doing.

That fixes things during the actual game session. But I like merricks idea for freeform *no pre planned plot* rp's.

Still doesn't fix the fools who go running about blasting up the ship x.x

I like continuing stories. I am running two right now, and helping to run a third. However some of my favorite RPs ever were the spontaneous, non-combat ones.

I also love just logging on and playing a minor role every once in a while. I play a engineering crewman who walks around the ship doing minor maintenance. It can be just as fun as playing Captain.

Unless it's enterprise where everything is 'to be continued' and then the clip at the beginning of the next episode is a completely randomized compilation of anything at all.
